Passion fruit, or Chinola as it is called in Dominican Republic, is a popular native fruit that is delicious and healthy. It is loaded with vitamin A and C, antioxidants, potassium and fiber. This tropical fruit is the size of a tennis ball and has pink, purple or yellow-green skin. The flavor is piercingly tart, but also very sweet, depending on how ripe the fruit is. Passion fruit continues to ripen after harvest; the skin will become increasingly wrinkled and the pulp gets sweeter. Be sure to try freshly squeezed chinola juice – you will never forget this taste.
